Alumni Employment Supports 1.75

Alumni Employment Supports is an organization that supports individuals with developmental disabilities in their employment pursuits. Our members are graduates of a four year inclusive education program at the University of Alberta. Our goal is to acquire employment relevant to the graduate’s interests and skills, and to assist with the creation of an inclusive workplace environment where the graduate can contribute as part of a team.

An Employment Facilitator is in place for every graduate to assist with on-the-job training, the fostering of relationships with employers and coworkers, and to ensure that the graduate’s employment experience is satisfactory for both the employer and the graduate. As the graduate becomes familiar with their position requirements, and as colleagues get to know the graduate, the Employment Facilitator gradually fades out of the workplace to ensure an authentic, natural and inclusive employment environment. Even after the graduate is comfortable in their role and is attending work independently, the Facilitator remains as a point of contact for the graduate, their employer and their colleagues. They will reappear on the job scene if the graduate takes on new responsibilities, or if they require assistance with executing their appointed tasks accurately.
