NITRO is a collective of visual storytellers that came together ten years ago with the aim to document the changes that affect Brazilian society and to preserve records for our visual history.

We are four photographers and a writer based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil’s third most populous urban agglomeration and host of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

With the objective to contribute to the identity building and image of Brazil, we work on personal projects and do editorial assignments and we are experienced producers of multimedia narratives, stop-motions, time-lapses and videos. At NITRO we enjoy exploring different techniques (photography, video, mixtures) and mediums (magazines, exhibitions, books, online, etc.) depending on the content and its potential but always taking The Photograph as our starting point.

We specialize in News and Politics, Culture and Human Rights, Sports, Nature and the Environment and Portraiture, always with our eyes geared towards the transformations in Brazil.

COLLABORATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS
NITRO collaborates with national and international media houses and editorial clients, including internationally The Associated Press, Courrier International, Agencia EFE, GEO, Financial Times, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and nationally, amongst others, the publishing houses Abril and Globo, as well as Epoca, Exame, Istoe and Veja.

Our institutional and corporate clients include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNESCO, Greenpeace, Biodiversitas, Chico Mendes Institute, Birdlife, Plan and several government institutions, including their corporate social responsibility departments, and the Brazilian Federal Government, as well as Vale and MMX, CNI; the Federation of Industry Association, and Petrobras.

Collectively, we have been recognized with industry awards and grants including the first prize in the photography category of the prestigious Prêmio Jabuti 2012, in addition to receiving a Prêmio New Holland de Fotoperiodismo, Prêmio Ayrton Senna de Jornalismo, three awards in the Concurso Itau BBA, Prêmio BNB de Jornalismo and National Geographic Prêmio de Fotografia.

We also run NITRO Editorial, our own publishing company that has published seven books, including Beira de Estrada, Harpia and Os Chicos. The latter was awarded with the Prêmio Jabuti, the most prestigious Brazilian literature prize.

An office team of 12 supports our work and at all times do we have access to a pool of extra professionals, including translators.

Last but not least: we greatly enjoy conducting educational trainings and organizing cultural events and actions that stimulate social change and touch upon contemporary issues and memory preservation.
