The Lar Batista Elizabeth Mein (LARBEM) is a non-profitable organization, founded in 1954 by the Baptist missionary female union of Pernambuco, which goal was at the beginning to house orphan children and teenagers. From 1990 and on, with the creation of the Children and Teenagers statute (Estatuto da criança e do adolescente – ECA), the institution became part of the integrated system of guaranteeing rights in Recife, titled House of Shelter.
