Dodengang - Boyau de la Mort 4.43

De Diksmuidse Dodengang is het enige bewaarde Belgische loopgravenstelsel uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog. In 2014 is het bijhorende interpretatiecentrum volledig vernieuwd. Aan de hand van vijftien interactieve applicaties, levensgrote foto’s, films en meer dan honderd originele objecten ontdek je hier het verhaal van de beruchte Dodengang. Er is ruime aandacht voor leven en dood in de Belgische loopgraven en de persoonlijke verhalen van de gesneuvelden kruipen onder je huid. Je loopt er over een gigantische luchtfoto uit 1916 waarmee je het landschap van toen en nu kan vergelijken. Naast het Belgische loopgravennetwerk is sinds vorig jaar ook een Duitse bunker in het parcours opgenomen die toelaat beide zijden van het oorlogsverhaal te vertellen.
Tijdens de oorlog de hel van de soldaten, sinds 1919 een toeristische trekpleister die niemand onberoerd laat.


Le Boyau de la Mort à Dixmude est le seul réseau de tranchées belges de la Première Guerre mondiale parvenu jusqu’à nous. En 2014, le centre d’interprétation du site a été rénové en profondeur. L’histoire du fameux Boyau de la Mort est racontée au travers de quinze applications interactives, de photos, de films et plus de cent objets d’époque. Il est question de vie et de mort ; les histoires personnelles font parfois froid dans le dos. Une gigantesque photo aérienne, prise en 1916, permet de comparer les paysages d’hier et d’aujourd’hui. L’année passée, un bunker allemand a été incorporé au parcours. Le visiteur peut donc s’immerger dans les deux côtés du conflit. Le Boyau de la Mort : un enfer pour les soldats pendant la guerre, un pôle touristique qui ne laisse pas indifférent depuis 1919.


The Trench of Death at Dixmude is the last remnant of the Belgian First World War trench system. In 2014 the attached interpretation centre was thoroughly refurbished. The history of the infamous Trench of Death is recalled through fifteen interactive applications, pictures, film footage and over one hundred original objects. The visitor is confronted with both life and death, and some personal stories really get under one’s skin. A gigantic aerial picture taken in 1916 makes it possible to compare past and present-day landscapes. Last year a German bunker was incorporated into the site: both sides of the war story can now be told. The Trench of Death: a soldiers’ hell during the war, a touching tourist highlight since 1919.
