Details

Wheat Research Centre (WRC), one of the 6-crop centers of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. Systematic research on wheat was started from 1971 through the initiated of the scheme “Accelerated Wheat Research Program for Bangladesh” for a period of 3 years. This was continued with the spill over funded till June, 1975. After it was revised in the form of “Expanded Wheat Research Program” During this period, eight varieties were released and these varieties performed excellently at the farm level. Simultaneously, the acreage and production increased ten fold and created an impact on the national economy. For the reason, the scheme was further revised and implemented as “Establishment of Wheat Research Centre” under BARI in July, 1980. This program is in the core program of the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh.
The centre is located at Nashipur, Dinajpur. It is about 15 km away to the north of Dinajpur town and situated at 25.380 N latitude, 88 410 E longitudes and 39 M elevation above sea level.
