Introduction

To unveil the sense of aesthetic beauty hidden in the human mind and flourish human taste, the practice of art plays a vital role. In all spheres of life, the touch of art is visible. A number of design houses and fashion boutiques meet the demands of our daily life. Thus, our life and art are but two facets of quality of life. Consequently, the practice of Fine Arts is gradually maturing in to professionalism. In line with this trend, the demand for institutional education in this discipline is increasing. Having that in mind, the UODA has launched the department of Fine Arts with a view to building up a complete platform of a practice.

At UODA the students will not only build up professional career as studio artists but also will develop skill in practical art. The university, therefore, has prepared the syllabus in tune with the demand of the age and on the basis of evolution of art. Believe that the system of education introduced in this discipline will inspire the students of the new generation to flourish their creativity and artistic potentials.

Specialization

Programme

The department of Fine Arts offers 4-years Bachelor degree. BFA in Fine Arts. It is a professional degree. It includes three specialized areas: Painting, Graphic Design and Printmaking. With a BFA degree in Painting, Graphic Design and Printmaking, the students are prepared to practice as studio artists. Graphic Designer goes for advanced study or takes up careers related to his specialization. The BFA specialization in graphic design prepares the student with the intellectual and practical knowledge required in the professional world of design. The goal of the specialization is to prepare students for professional graphic design and confirm personal and creative growth in publication, promotion, and corporate identity packaging, advertising and environmental graphic design. The curriculum exposes the students to the broad application of design. Emphasis is placed on creative and critical thinking and skills suitable for application in a broad range of employment possibilities as well as preparation for graduate program.


MFA
Master of Fine Arts

Introduction

The department of Fine Arts and Design offers graduate studies leading to the Master of Fine Arts degree with majors in Painting, Graphic Design and Printmaking. The student is expected to select an area of specialization and a program will be planned in consultation with the academic supervisor or the chairman of the department.

Programme

A minimum of 66 credit hours is required for the MFA degree in Painting, Graphic Design and Printmaking. All hours are to be counted toward graduation must have approval of the student's major adviser in the studio area of specialization. The time limit required to complete a 66-credit hour program is 6 semesters or two academic years.

After the completion of course work, all students for MFA degree must, during the final semester of academic work, present a graduate exhibition, a terminal project or a written dissertation and pass an oral examination covering 6 credits. The terminal project is a creative activity presented in lieu of the written dissertation, and the graduate exhibition is considered to satisfy the terminal project requirement.

Evaluation process and grading system will be followed according to the usual rules of the university.

This syllabus is subject to change, modification and development with the changing situation and demand.

Eligibility

An undergraduate degree in art or equivalent is required for admission into the Master of Fine Arts degree program.
