Introduction :

The Department of Accounting & Information Systems recommenced its journey with 22 teachers and near about 4000 students if then Jagannath College in October 2005. And this was then Jagannth College’s legacy to the Jagannath University. Science inception, the department upholding its unwavering commitment to first rate teaching quality and teaching staffs, The department offers Graduate, and Post-graduate Programs in Accounting and Information Systems with a clear philosophy to develop in students the required knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts and practical techniques for Accounting profession and Managerial discipline. After transforming of then Jagannath College into Jagannath University The Department of Accounting & Information Systems has firstly offered BBA program since 2005-2006 academic session and recently, the department has offered Master of Business Administration (MBA) program in addition to existing Master of Business Studies (MBS) program in keeping with the trend of grater appeal and acceptability in the job market and to successfully faces the competitive environment in the modern business world.

The degree programs are conducted by a number of highly qualified and trained academic personnel with suitable academic background. Distinguished scholars through their praiseworthy efforts have made the program the most covered one. A large number of faculty members individually and in teams-is actively engaged in research and have already done their credit pioneering research publications. In addition to their commitment to teaching and research, faculty members are playing important role in the affairs of the University and the community at large. The diversified academic background of faculty, their research activates, and the dynamic curriculum of Department of Accounting & Information Systems has made it the foremost department in the Jagannath University.
Program & Course Offer:

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Program :

The BBA in Department of Accounting & Information Systems is a prestigious degree. Which has been offered Jagannath University since the 2005-2006 academic sessions. The BBA degree is offered to provide students with an understanding of the functioning of business from a theoretical, practical and managerial perspective. It is an internationally recognized qualification for grooming professionals, business executive, entrepreneurs and academics in the relevant area seeking to expand their intellectual horizon and improve their management skills and competence. The program is rigorous, with an emphasis on practical applications and skills for immediate use, which offers students a comprehensive education with in-depth knowledge in all major facts of business. The program not only provides students with tools for success in many career paths but also fosters and awareness of social and ethical issues. The program focuses on the latest development of business world, and the curriculum is update on a regular basis. The classes are not limited to in-class lectures only but also incorporate an array of teaching tools like case analysis, audio-visual presentations, field work and research. The course is enriched by interaction with experienced professionals of business world through which students get the real world flavor of business practices.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program :

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in the Department of Accounting & Information Systems in the Faculty of Business Studies is a full-time 54 credit hours professional program. It is a flexible and career oriented program designed to meet the needs of the students who want to develop their career as executive in the fields of different business areas as well as teaching and research positions in different institutions. It also helps to prepare them for major career advancement. Rules and regulations are designed within the general framework of the Jagannath University regulations.

M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programs :

Department already approved its M.Phil and Ph. D. programs according to the rules of the University. Masters degree holders in management/business administration from any recognized educational institution may apply for admission, subject to fulfillment of the conditions set by the University. The terms and conditions regarding admission, examination, and other matters relating to these degrees are prescribed by the regulations formulated by the Academic Council and the Syndicate of the Jagannath University.

Physical Facilities :

The DAIS offers an enjoyable teaching-learning environment, which has been made possible by the existence of some unique physical and related facilities. The facilities include:
• A well-decorated computer lab that helps provide one student one-computer for computer related classes and simulations.
• Network system and 24-hours on-line Internet connection in the computer lab.
• Well-spaced classrooms in a serene natural environment with adequate ventilation and lighting.under full air conditioned
• In-built Microphone System & Multimedia Projectors in all classrooms.
• Big-sized white boards (no black boards) in all classrooms.
• Chairs with writing facility for every student.
• Sophisticated multimedia projectors for visual presentation using computer.
• Individual furnished room for each faculty member, fitted with Desktop & Laptop computer for individual use.
• A common specialized library rich in latest-edition books at the seminar.

Library Facilities :

Students have access to the Jagannath University Central Library, which has in its possession some thousands of books. In addition, the Faculty of Business Studies has developed a library, which keeps primarily business and management-related textbooks. Our Department regularly procures need-based books upon recommendation of course teachers and allows the students to use those books through the faculty library.

Curricular and Extra-Curricular Activities:

Computer Lab :

Society relies profoundly on Information Technology which countries to develop at an incredible pace, and it is vital that everyone, especially students, acquire basic skills in the most modern ways of accessing and processing information. The department here, prepare students to move ahead to meet the challenge of millennium. To cope with the anticipated demand of the 21st century, the department is equipped with a modern Computer Lab that has accommodated 40 computers. It has been established with a view of creating the needs of computational and computer skill of the students in the information technology age. The department has been successfully accomplishing its obligation to equip the students with the primary knowledge and skill of the computer through its various accounting and other professional software training programs. The department offers regular courses on business application package to the students.
