At the beginning of human era, human was depended on nature to manage their need of clothing. Through evolution, they chose Lungi as their wear, which is known as a comfortable wear. From the birth of Lungi, the village Tamai has been on the top in making of it. Tamai is a village of the Vangabari Union of Belruchi Upazila in Sirajganj District in Rajshahi Division in the green shades of Bangladesh. The village is about 10 kilometers south of the city of Sirajganj. The size of the village is about 5 square kilometer. Its population is about 17 thousand. There are few Hindu families in the village and all other are Muslim. The village is dependent on the handloom industry. A small number of people manage their livings by cultivation. Most people in the village Tamai are educated. Among the educated villagers, a large number of people do business and some are service holders & immigrants. The education system of this village is well developed and standard. There are one Isalamia Fazil Madrasha, one Koumi Madrasha, three Hafezia Madrasha, one high school, one graveyard and one traditional Eidgah Field. There are two Banks, one post office and one bazar in this village. In the past, this village was slightly developed than other villages. Here, most of the people owned handloom. Tamai village is not falling behind in this fast paced world. Powerloom, which is an electric handloom can be seen on each house. Many of the people are doing business of wool and color. It’s like, the village has become an industrial city. Now, people are using electric handloom instead of traditional handloom. Enormous buildings are seen everywhere instead of green fields. The buildings are always noisy - this is a wordy diverse world. Tamai Village is famous for Lungi. Lungi of various kinds of designs and quality are made here. The prices are varied. Many people are making such a low price Lungi, just as many people are making high cost Lungi. Because there are separate markets for each. In each of the powerloom, the future and dreams of villagers are hidden underneath.

সৃষ্টিলগ্নে মানুষ লজ্জা নিবারণের জন্য প্রকৃতির উপর নির্ভর করতো। কালের বিবর্তনে মানুষ লজ্জা নিবারণের জন্য বেছে নেয় লুঙ্গিকে- যা আরামদায়ক পরিধান হিসেবে পরিচিত। জন্মলগ্ন থেকেই তামাই গ্রাম লুঙ্গি উৎপাদনে শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব ধরে রেখেছে। প্রকৃতির লীলাভূমি ছায়া শ্যামল বাংলাদেশের রাজশাহী বিভাগের সিরাজগঞ্জ জেলার বেলকুচি উপজেলার ভাঙ্গাবাড়ি ইউনিয়ন এর অন্তর্গত “তামাই” একটি গ্রাম। গ্রামটি সিরাজগঞ্জ শহর থেকে প্রায় ১০ কিলোমিটার দক্ষিণে অবস্থিত। গ্রামটির আয়তন প্রায় ৫ বর্গকিলোমিটার। তামাই গ্রামের লোকসংখ্যা প্রায় ১৭ হাজার। গ্রামে কয়েকটি হিন্দু পরিবার আর বাকি সব মুসলমান। গ্রামটি তাঁত শিল্পের উপর নির্ভরশীল। অল্প সংখ্যক লোক কৃষি কাজ করে জীবিকা নির্বাহ করে। তামাই গ্রামের অধিকাংশ লোক শিক্ষিত। শিক্ষিত লোকদের মধ্যে বেশিরভাগ লোক ব্যাবসা করে এবং বাকি কিছু চাকুরীজীবী এবং প্রবাসী। এই গ্রাম এ শিক্ষা ব্যাবস্থা উন্নত এবং মানসম্পন্ন। এই গ্রাম এ একটি ইসলামিয়া ফাজিল মাদ্রাসা, একটি কওমি মাদ্রাসা, তিনটি হেফজ মাদ্রাসা, একটি উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়, একটি বালিকা উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়, পাঁচটি প্রাইমারি স্কুল, তিনটি কিন্ডার গারটেন রয়েছে। তামাই গ্রাম এ আছে একটি হাসপাতাল, একটি কবরস্থান, একটি ঐতিহ্যবাহী ঈদগাহ মাঠ। এখানে আছে একটি বাজার, দুইটি ব্যাংক এবং একটি ডাকঘর। অতীতকাল থেকেই গ্রামটি ছিল অন্যান্য গ্রামের চেয়ে একটু উন্নত। এখানে বেশিরভাগ লোকের ছিল হস্তচালিত তাঁত। বিশ্ব এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে, পিছিয়ে নেই তামাই গ্রাম। এখন এই গ্রাম এর প্রতিটি বাড়িতে দেখা যাচ্ছে বিদ্যুৎ চালিত তাঁত যাকে বলা হয় পাওয়ারলুম। অনেকে সুতার ব্যাবসা ও রঙের ব্যাবসা করে যা তাঁতশিল্পের সাথে জড়িত। গ্রামটি বর্তমানে যেন এক শিল্পনগরীতে পরিণত হয়েছে। এখন হস্তচালিত তাতের পরিবর্তে বিদ্যুৎ চালিত তাতের ব্যাবহার শুরু হয়েছে। চতুর্দিকে তাকালে সবুজমাঠের পরিবর্তে দেখা জায় শুধু বিরাট বিরাট ভবন। ভবনগুলোতে চলছে দিন রাত শব্দের খেলা, নাটবল্টুর ঝন ঝনানি- এ যেন এক শব্দময় বিচিত্র পৃথিবী। তামাই গ্রাম লুঙ্গির জন্যে প্রসিদ্ধ একটি গ্রাম। বিভিন্ন ডিজাইন, বিভিন্ন মানের লুঙ্গি তৈরি করা হয় এই গ্রাম এ। দামের ক্ষেত্রেও রয়েছে ভিন্নতা। অনেকেই যেমন তৈরি করছে একটু কম মূল্যের লুঙ্গি, ঠিক তেমনি অনেকেই বেশি দামের লুঙ্গি তৈরি করছে। কেননা প্রতিটার জন্য রয়েছে আলাদা আলাদা বাজার। এক একটা তাঁত। এক একটা পাওয়ারলুম এর মধ্যে জড়িয়ে আছে এই এলাকার মানুষের স্বপ্ন, তাদের ভবিষ্যৎ।
