The Women’s Community Centre was established by the St. Peters Women’s Group to mark the first International Women’s Day in 1975, with the building from the St. Peters Council and the campaign for funding by the Women's Electoral Lobby from the Don Dunston’s Government.

This historical first Women’s Community Centre was first Rape Crisis Centre and Women’s Shelter as well as the birth place of the Women’s Information Service in South Australia. Hence its' history interwoven with the history of women’s advancement in this state.
While it’s primary focus over the last four decades has been to nurture resilience in women, the whole community including children and men benefit from it’s very affordable services.
Today it is a state wide service known for it’s safe and friendly women only space, providing work skills, legal services, recreational, wellbeing groups,healthy meals, Op-shop and free bread daily. It is a prooven stepping stone for migrants, school leavers and women of DV experiences.

The last Women’s Community Centre in SA has a buzzing community of more than 800 registered members, 250 weekly users of whom 70 are volunteers.
