The Willows has been an icon of St Kilda Road since 1890, when James Downie first built the Victorian mansion, naming her “Estella” after his wife. It was a private home for many years and a notable landmark on one of Melbourne’s most famous boulevards.
In 1974, the building was recognised by the National Trust and is now preserved as a valuable part of the city’s architectural heritage.
From 1972 “The Willows”, as it became known, began to build an enviable reputation as a fine dining establishment and venue of choice.
The current owners Aaron and Estelle Lewis continue to honour The Willows’ traditional dining past with a truly a la carte experience and full beverage service.
They have also opened the doors to a wider range of private and business functions and today, The Willows is recognised as one of Melbourne’s most popular wedding and event venues.
