Circa 1835, this gorgeous cottage has been lovingly restored and renovated to bring it into the 21st century while retaining all the original charm. Perfect for a couple wanting a romantic getaway, a single needing time to think and relax, or friends wanting a convenient base to explore the delights of Hobart.

The property has street appeal, and from the moment you set eyes on the cottage garden at the front, and the smoke coming out of the chimney you are transported to an earlier period of Hobart's rich history, of which the cottage was a part.

Originally built as a Watchman's cottage, it is one of the oldest houses in New Town. A painting on the wall in the main living area shows what the area would have looked like when it was first constructed.

On entry there is a cosy living room with floorboards, leather couches and wood fire to keep you warm in the chilly Hobart winters. This room opens onto the first bedroom with a double bed and an electric heater.

In the living room there is access to the second floor attic space which is home to the second bedroom and a quaint office / sitting room. Access to this level is by ladder only so is not ideally suited to the very young or old! Imagine having breakfast in bed looking out the attic skylight windows over a snow capped Mount Wellington...perfection.

One of the walls upstairs shows original newspaper lining dating back to the 1930's all adding to the heritage atmosphere here. Every piece of furniture has been hand picked to compliment the cottage, with several pieces being antiques dating back to the 1800's.

The kitchen is modern and spacious including a dishwasher and everything you could possibly need to cook up some of Tasmania's world famous produce, as well as another wood fire. The gorgeous dining room is adjacent to the kitchen with enough reading material to last even the most avid bookworm through the winter!

The bathroom has shower only and is light and bright, and there are full laundry facilities available.
Out the back door you will find wood for the fire, an outdoor setting in a leafy courtyard and best of all a vegetable / herb garden that you may make use of when in season.

Well situated within an easy walk to supermarkets and New Town Plaza, there is a bus every 10 minutes on the nearby Main Rd going to the CBD or Mona Art Museum, as well as being convenient to Cornelian Bay Reserve and Park home of the 'Boathouse' restaurant.

Locally famous Jackman and McRoss bakery is also an easy stroll, and for the cycling enthusiast the bike track is nearby.

The Watchhouse is a quality heritage holiday destination ideally suited to a couple's hideaway and guests who come for a weekend or a month will not be disappointed with the experience on offer.
