The Tasmanian Paint Shop is a family owned and operated business.

Tasmanian Paints and Haymes Paints jointly purchased the business previously known as The Paint Shop in September 2014 and is now trading as The Tasmanian Paint Shop. TasPaints was previously owned and operated by the Desmarchelier family since 1967.

With this partnership the Desmarchelier and Haymes families will continue to make sure that they permeate their ethos of ownership with a strong sense of purpose and passion and maintain a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation across the generations.

And with a multigenerational dimension and family influence they will jointly be meaningful by nurturing family values and giving new generations a sense of pride in the partnerships contribution to society.

With the collaboration of the two families, together their vision is to form a dedicated paint retail chain in Tasmania that will provide a comprehensive range of services as well as offer great value for every Tasmanian customer.

The Tasmanian Paint Shop is the largest stockist in Tasmania of two premium Australian brands – Haymes Paint, the great Australian Paint and TasPaints – Made for Tasmania, it’s naturally better. The Tasmanian Paint Shop staff have a multitude of experience and can offer specialist advice on home, trade and marine paint.


TasPaints is a second generation family business that has been producing quality paints and timber finishes in Tasmania since 1967.

When TasPaints was founded by Michael & Gillian Desmarchelier, there were several paint producers in the state. With the passage of time the others have gone leaving TasPaints as the only manufacturer of paints and surface coatings in Tasmania. Guardianship of the business also changed with the second generation of Desmarcheliers – Simon & Jo and their families.

Both Simon and Jo are hands on Directors and have over 40 years combined experience working in the daily operations of the business.

When founded, Michael & Gillian wanted several things for their business:
• to provide superior personal service and advice to exceed our customer’s expectations
• to manufacture paints to the highest quality standards within the industry
• to provide a safe and friendly work environment where employees can thrive and prosper
• to be a responsible and ethical corporate citizen

The Haymes family, born in Ballarat in 1935, their family run business is now in the hands of the fourth generation of Haymes. Over the years, each member has taken care to hand on the commitment and passion for crafting quality products. After all, it is our name and reputation on the can.

But just because they have history, don't think that they are stuck in their ways. They are driven to bring new and better products to market, ensuring you'll always have the best. They have already made advances like paint that self-primes, blocks stains, trim paint that has the benefits of an enamel but is low odour and water based, plus low/zero VOC coatings that don't compromise on quality.
