In 2017 we celebrate the 30th Birthday of the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden. The Garden has a wonderfully interesting history, founded on the traditional land of the Gundungarra and Darug Aboriginal people which in 1804 was traversed by explorer George Caley on a botanic collecting trip.

The Garden sits on 252 hectares of land with 28 hectares open to the public and is home to 21,000 plants and 900 species.

The Garden is the only botanic garden in the world in a World Heritage Area and is focused on the conservation of cool climate plants. Over the next five years we are revisiting, and returning The Garden to the original vision for the site while aspiring to be the model garden for sustainable practices on a global stage.

Our educational, cultural and artistic events including exhibitions and workshops are set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Garden, reflecting the stunning surrounds.

We are located under 2-hours’ drive from the Sydney airport and less than an hour from Penrith and Richmond.
