The Australian Centre for Trauma and Wellness has been created to attend to long term needs for people who have suffered trauma, as a one off event or over a period of time.
The Centre was created due to the increasing demand in the community and prevelance of trauma. Additionally we were frustrated at young people being diagnosed with mental health issues when they were actually traumatised for unknown reasons.
Trauma can be described as a a disturbing/ distressing event/s, that can affect the emotional and or psychological wellbeing of a person. Not one person can tell another person if they are traumatised, so we leave this descripition up to the client and work with them as needed.
We are different in that we can work "holistically" with clients in group or private sessions, exploring using different models of practice. Our stand out ideas around practicing with trauma is the understanding that people are "whole" and that healing is a multi dimensional process. The use of experiential learning through art, drama and adventure therapy is used if needed, and talking isn't always the primary way in which treatment is experienced.
All options are explored with our clients, as we carefully help them unwrap the trauma and we help 'guide' them back to 'wholeness' through holistic care and consideration.
