Details

The PCYC movement commenced in Tasmania in 1946.

While the name we call ourselves and the language which we use to describe what we do has changed over time, the reason for our existence has remained constant: to reduce crime by providing positive relationships between young people and police.

That job could not be possible without the voluntary contribution to PCYC by members of the community.

Successful PCYCs will contain three elements: young people who want to be involved in the club, strong community support, and involvement from police officers.

Often, whilst carrying on with their crime reduction function, PCYCs generate other benefits. PCYCs provide opportunities for young people. They contribute to community fabric.

PCYC’s mission is to provide low cost, positive, sporting, recreational, social and cultural programs in a safe environment primarily for ‘at risk’ youth.

PCYC’s vision is to be widely recognised in the community as:

A professional provider of quality programs for the benefit of youth and the Tasmanian community,

A significant contributor to a reduction of the involvement of young people in dangerous or anti-social activities,

A significant contributor to a reduction of the involvement of young people in criminal activity, and

A conduit for increased levels of communication understanding and mutual respect between police young people and the Tasmanian community.
