At Space for Thought we aim to provide a relaxed, engaging, friendly and safe therapeutic space for children, young people and their families. In our counselling we use creative interventions to connect with children and young people in a way that is meaningful to them. This provides children and young people with the space to reflect on their views of themselves, their experiences and their world, in a gentle and supportive manner.

We also recognise the importance of biological, psychological and sociological factors on the wellbeing of children and young people, such as family, school, peer relationships and developmental stages and therefore take these ideas into account when supporting our clients.

The approaches to therapy that we use are determined by an initial and ongoing assessment of individual needs and developmental suitability. Depending on this assessment we may use a number of different approaches to therapy with each client. The reason for this is that we appreciate that what works best for children and young people will not only vary from person to person but individual needs also change over time. We aim to be attuned to the needs of our clients in order to encourage growth and personal development.

Types of therapeutic approaches that we provide include:
◾Play Therapy
◾Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
◾Narrative Therapy
◾Strengths Based Therapeutic Approaches
◾Art based Therapy
◾Mindfulness
◾Family Therapy
◾Psycho-education for Parents and Carers
and more.

In addition to this as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Space for Thought is a Medicare provider and can be referred to by your local General Practitioner (GP) with a Mental Health Care Plan. For more information on this click the below link, talk with your doctor or call our service.
