Established in 1968, Southern Cross Care (SA & NT) has a long and proud history in providing retirement and aged care services throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Our organisation was founded by the Knights of the Southern Cross, an order of Catholic laymen committed to promoting the Christian way of life throughout Australia. Peter Taylor AM, OBE, KSG, became our first Chairman.

Our first project was the construction of a modest group of one-bedroom units at Croydon Park, which was funded on a dollar for dollar basis by the Commonwealth Government.

Throughout the 1970s, Southern Cross Care continued to grow, with the development of 30 sites throughout the Adelaide metropolitan area and Mount Gambier.

In 1976, to meet the emerging demand for high quality aged care, our first care centre was built at North Plympton. This was followed by the construction of a 146-bed nursing home next to the care centre.

For over four decades, we’ve continued to expand our services to meet the growing demands of an ageing population. Southern Cross Care now operates 53 sites across South Australia and the Northern Territory.
