Shimmi’s School of Bellydance (formerly Hills School of Bellydance ) was established in the Hills District of Sydney in 1999. Regular classes are held in the Hills District. The school teaches Bellydancing at all levels from beginner’s to performance. We offer workshops, private tuition and small group sessions in a private studio or your own home or workplace. Dancers and drummers are available for bookings.

Bellydancing is both a graceful and skilful form of art. The social side of the dance unites women of all ages giving them the opportunity to feel truly feminine and express themselves in a supportive environment that crosses the boundaries of age, appearance and creed.

Bellydance is an extremely enjoyable way of keeping fit, reducing tension and producing a lasting feeling of physical and emotional well being.

“To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to do.”
Kahlil Gibran

“Bellydance has so many benefits, it increases self-esteem and confidence, tones and strengthens the whole body. While you’re enjoying dancing, endorphins are released throughout your body putting a smile on your lips and bringing a lightness to your heart. You’ll make new friends while sharing the joy of music and movement and feel a sense of belonging to our sisterhood. Research has found dancing reduces the risk of Dementia and Alzheimers. While dancing we are thinking on our feet, learning new dance moves and putting them together in choreographies and timing body movement to music, all this involves advanced mental activity that keeps our brains fit and running.

Dancing leads to healthier, longer and happier lives…………….Really makes you want to get up and dance doesn’t it!!!”

“How could you not like a dance that celebrates your womanly curves?

Our classes are non-competitive, rather the focus is on having fun and enjoying yourself, learning the art of Bellydance while having a laugh. Our classes are enriched through the beautiful mothers, daughters & grandmothers, teenagers, business women and gorgeous ladies within them. This is an art for all, and one that is just for you! Our passion for the dance is passed on to each student in classes in which we focus on developing student’s basic foundation moves and technique in a fun and comfortable environment.”

Presently the school continues expanding its artistic expression with women from all backgrounds, cultures and philosophies. Persian, Egyptian, Indian, Turkish, Lebanese, Armenian, Asian and Mediterranean are just some of the cultures within the school community. Our students of all ages, from youth to mature age contribute artistic input.

“The captivating art of Bellydance has its origins in the temples and fertility religions of the ancient world. The Dance is both a graceful and skilful form of art, while the social side of the dance unites women of all ages giving them the opportunity to feel truly feminine and express themselves in a supportive environment that crosses the boundaries of age, appearance and creed. Our bellydance lessons are designed to allow for lots of revision. We teach moves by breaking them down, often teaching in different ways to enable all our students to learn at their own pace, then we put the moves together in fun drills that really get everyone moving.”
