RufUs Charity - Supporting victims of domestic violence and homelessness 3.24

Established in 2011, RufUs actively supports victims of domestic violence and those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

RufUs assists people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness by providing meals, street swags and supplies to those on the streets.

The other key aspect of our work is to outfit homes for people who are transitioning into housing who are victims of domestic violence, who were previously homeless or at risk of homelessness. We work with 34 service providers and organisations in the sector across Adelaide who find houses for their clients. We provide furniture, household goods, whitegoods, linen, clothing, toys and miscellaneous items to turn those houses into homes.

In 2016 RufUs outfitted over 500 homes. Around half of the people whose homes we outfitted were women and children escaping domestic/family violence. We also provide education and advocacy around homelessness prevention.

We believe this work is simply a matter of Adelaide coming together to assist each other. You can help by donating good quality secondhand goods and furniture, or equally by cash donations, as our running costs are around $105,000 per year currently. This is likely to increase as the number of homes we outfit tends to double each year.

We are also always interested in hearing from potential volunteers and corporate sponsors, and people who would like us to come and speak at their community groups.
