Perth Veterinary Behaviour Service is a mobile behavioural medicine clinic based in Perth, Western Australia, providing clinical behavioural consultations in the comfort of your home, where your pet feels most relaxed. PVBS is a mental health service for cats and dogs. Using the most up-to-date, scientifically validated methods, we aim to find a treatment plan that suits you and your pet.

Our veterinarian, Dr Nichola, is committed to providing a personal, thorough service, aimed at achieving the best results. Every case is assessed individually that allows us to provide a treatment plan unique to you and your pet’s needs.

Our consultations, treatment and behaviour modification plans are formulated using the most current and progressive, science-based methods, aimed at helping improve the mental health of your pet.

Behaviour problems are the number one reason why pets are relinquished to shelters, and subsequently euthanised. The sooner the problems are dealt with, the better the outcome for the patient. Unfortunately, there are no quick fixes for serious behavioural problems. PVBS recommends working with a qualified professional, preferably under the guidance of a veterinary surgeon, in order to improve your pet’s behavioural problem.

Using force-based training methods often suppresses behaviours leading to an unpredictable animal. Punishment in training has also been shown scientifically to make behaviour problems worse, whilst also damaging the bond between you and your pet.

If your pet is showing any of the following signs, even at a young age, then it will NOT
grow out of it and would benefit from a behaviour consult:

1) fearful behaviour in any situation, such as on walks, towards people, children or men, in the car, veterinary visits, thunderstorms etc.

2) reactivity (barking, lunging, snapping, whining) towards other people, children, dogs or animals

3) noise sensitivity – shying and hiding away or barking/reacting excessively to novel or high-pitched sounds

4) aggression in any form
house soiling

5) destructive behaviours (chewing, digging, fence jumping etc.)

6) repetitive behaviours (tail chasing, over grooming, shadow chasing etc.)
