Opera at the Channon 2.73

In 1996 a group of friends attended the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe’s Opera in the Vineyard at Ballandean and were suitably impressed. As a result ‘Opera at The Channon’ was created to:

a) Provide the Lismore region with a quality cultural event and;
b) Raise money for worthwhile local charities.

Over the last 15 years, ‘Opera at The Channon’ has become one of the most popular cultural events on the NSW North Coast, featuring Opera singers from the Queensland Opera Company and more recently the professional opera group – ‘Operatif’. This year will feature artists from Opera Australia. The event is held at the picturesque country setting of Coronation Park in The Channon. (Wet Weather venue for 2013 Lismore Show Ground Pavillion)

From 18 – 90 year olds The ‘Opera at The Channon’ is a unique event and caters to a large and diverse demographic audience spanning a variety of different groups.

Opera buffs and novices alike chave the opportunity to:

a) Dress formally and enjoy a ‘silver service’ luncheon under a grand marquee or;
b) Take their own picnic hampers and enjoys lunch in the park.

More than 600 people usually attend the event with around 280 enjoying the luncheon.

Following lunch, patrons are treated to an afternoon of fine music with a selection of songs from famous operas and musicals performed by some of Australia’s best operatic talent.
