North East Vet Clinic is your local vet in St Helens, Tasmania. Open 7 days a week and here 24/7 for emergencies, we care for all creatures great & small. Ph 63218999 (24hrs).

For pets in Bicheno, Coles Bay, Swansea and surrounds, we also have a weekly clinic at 64 Burgess Street, Bicheno.

We also run a weekly house call service to St Marys, Fingal and surrounds.

We treat dogs, cats, horses, livestock and wildlife, as well as rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and more!

We have a strong commitment to modern diagnostic equipment and up-to-date treatment modalities. Our in-house equipment includes a digital x-ray, a hematology blood-testing machine and a biochemistry machine.

Some of our services follow:

- Vaccinations and parasite prevention.

- Dental Care

We offer dental service to all pets young and old – you may not have looked into your pets’ mouths for a while now – a healthy set of teeth and gums make sure that we enjoy our food and our lives – this matters to dogs and cats too! Come in for a obligation free dental check-up, and pick up a few tips on maintaining a healthy oral cavity!

- Desexing Surgery

Non-breeding animals should ideally be desexed when they reach 5-6 months of age. This applies to both boys and girls out there. Come in for a chat about the benefits of this procedure – sometimes this is the simple answer to behavioural problems too!

- Soft Tissue Surgery

Lumps and bumps, abscesses, wounds, bladder stones … you name it, we do it. Note that every anaesthetic protocol is catered to the specific animal – therefore we do need to organise a check up pre-surgery, during which it is important to discuss what the owners expect.

- Digital Xrays

With our state of the arts Care Stream system, we aim to not miss a thing! Where necessary, a scheme is also set up where our images can be sent, on the owner's request, to the imaging specialist in Sydney for interpretation.

- In-house and External Bloodwork

We use Gribbles in Melbourne as our external blood laboratory. Samples are taken on the day and results come back usually within 24 hours (certain tests e.g. culture and sensitivity will takes longer). This fast turnover allows diagnosis and quick implementation of appropriate treatment for your pet.
We also have in-house cytology and an IDEXX QBC hematology machine for those urgent cases.

- Emergency clinic

We are available 24/7. Ring us on 6321 8999 it diverts through to our mobiles – this line is also open for general questions that you may want an immediate answers to.

- Medication Post Service

Postal service for medications and other items – we are happy to re-dispense medication over the counter the same way doctors / chemists do! We will do what we can to help especially if you live a long distance away!

- Prescription food

Prescription food that you can’t get from the supermarket or Petbarn for purposes such as – weight loss, skin problems, diabetic management or prevention, seniors diet, puppy/kitten special formulas, hairball, tartar control, kidney / liver diseases .. the list goes on – if we don’t have it in stock on the day, we will order it in! You can also make an order over the phone.

-Senior Pet Care

We start with an initial consultation where we address your concerns, check their heart, teeth, bones and joint, hearing, vision etc. We move on to blood test screening mainly for organ functions. We offer radiographs if you worry about arthritis starting to affect your pets’ mobility. Advice is given so that quality of life is ensured!

Puppy Socialisation and Puppy School
We gather details of puppies in your area that are interested in play dates – we can also organise socialisation sessions in our clinic itself. Socialisation at a young age is probably the most important skill that puppies need to master, so that they learn appropriate body languages and expressions for later on in life.

-Behavioural Problems

Individual behavioural counseling – just like us, mental health is as important as physical health! Examples of behavioral problems include adolescence misbehaving / trying to dominate; aggression between pets or directed at family members; anxiety / separation anxiety; OCD type behavior that’s affecting daily life. In most cases if the owners are committed to work with their animal and us on a long term basis, positive changes can be achieved.

- Doggy Daycare

Shopping or dining in St Helens for a few hours? Got a couple of chores to do in town? Leave your pet us for the day in a safe environment at an affordable rate. They will be given lots of individual attention, we also offer a daycare and grooming package, where they go home with a new hair cut and smelling lovely!
Grooming and Sedation Grooming for Dogs and Cats
Grooming days are usually once a fortnight - give us a ring and we'll give you a date!
For the feisty pets out there who don't tolerate clippers / water too well. We give a short and reversible sedation, less trauma for both the dog / cat and owner!

-Pet Care Products

We have a pet shop attached to our clinic - we also order directly from manufacturer - which means you can flip through the catalogue, let us know what you need and we can give you a quote and order it in for you!
