New England LAC - NSW Police Force 1.39

The New England LAC (NELAC) comprises an approximate area of 31,570 square
kilometres of varying topography from gorge country along the Great Dividing Range in the east, to the northern tablelands and the slopes and plains to the west.

The NELAC extends from the NSW/Queensland border north of Tenterfield to Uralla in the South, and from Ebor in the east to Yetman in the west.
The New England Highway runs through the NELAC north/south, and the Gwydir and Bruxner Highways run east/west through the LAC.

The NELAC main administration centre is at Armidale Police Station. Armidale is
some 560 kilometres generally north of Sydney, about 600 kilometres south of
Brisbane, and 190 kilometres west of Coffs Harbour.

Across the NELAC, Armidale generally accounts for some 60% of crime, Inverell
30%, with the remainder spread throughout the smaller sectors.

The main “hotspots” for crime in the NELAC are the central business districts and
shopping precincts of Armidale and Inverell. The main categories of crime that most consistently draw on policing resources in this LAC are alcohol related incidents including malicious damage, street offences, and domestic assaults.
