Melbourne is known around the world for its fine gardens and vital public spaces – and its innovation in design and architecture. MPavilion brings these elements together in a unique annual architecture commission and design event.

MPavilion will be sited in the Queen Victoria Gardens, in the centre of the Southbank Arts Precinct, each summer from 2014 to 2017. An outstanding architect will be commissioned by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation each year, with support from City of Melbourne and the Victorian Government.

The pavilion will serve as a unique meeting place and site for a free four-month public program of talks, workshops, performances and installations from October to January – a highlight of Melbourne’s spring/summer calendar of events and festivals.

Building on unexpected collaborations, MPavilion is a new kind of clubhouse – an intriguing form, a meeting place, a changing landmark, a container of ideas, a base to explore design’s role in Melbourne.
