About Jay Dabgar:

Born in a family of Tabla-makers in India, Jay has grown up in an environment surrounded by music and instruments. Having obtained traditional Taleem (vigorous training) in Tabla since the age of 4 from his Gurus, Shree Divyang Vakil (disciple of Late Ustad Allarakha Saheb), Late Pandit Nandan Mehta (disciple of Padma Bhushan Late Pandit Kishan Maharaj and also the founder of the Saptak School of Music) and Pandit Pooran Maharaj (son of the Late Pandit Kishan Maharaj, also a disciple of Pandit Kanthe Maharaj), Jay has successfully established himself as a renowned Tabla-player both, in traditional Indian classical playing as well as in non-conventional fusion and world music styles. He has performed extensively in India and Australia, and is an accredited All India Radio artist as well as the winner of numerous awards and accolades. Jay now resides in Melbourne and is well-known as one of Australia’s foremost classical Tabla-players and teachers, who performs as a soloist, as well as with a range of local musicians and artists touring from overseas.
