Matthew Alexander has over 30 years of basketball experience as a player and coach. Matt comes from a sporting family with his father, Terry, playing for Collingwood FC and state basketball, his mum, Lorraine, was a keen netballer, older sister, Lee, played state basketball and WNBL, with his younger sister, Kate, playing for the Opals and in the WNBL.

Matt started his junior career with Warrnambool Basketball. Matt went on to represent Vic Country and Victoria for 5 years winning 2 MVPs. Matt completed his VCE years at The Australian Institute of Sport with the likes of Brett Maher. He has twice represented Australia at the World Titles in Canada and Spain.

Matt went on to play in the National Basketball League (NBL) for 7 seasons playing with Geelong Supercats, Melbourne Giants, Newcastle Falcons, Cairns Taipans and Townsville Crocs.

Matt has played with the Warrnambool Seahawks and most recently returned to the court for the 2015 season.

After finishing his professional basketball career, Matt studied Physical Education at the University of Ballarat. Matt went on to be the Director of Basketball at Anglican Grammar (“Churchy”) in Brisbane coaching and training Cam Bairstow who is now playing with the Chicago Bulls.

Matt Alexander Basketball started in 2014 stemming from Matt’s desire to return to basketball and focus on the development of junior players in the Warrnambool region. Matt is coaching over 200 children in his clinics and after school basketball clubs. Matt and his sister, Kate, lead the Aussie Hoops program each week at The Arc.

Matt will coach the Warrnambool Seahawks Big V side for the 2016 season.
