Matsumoto Karate Academy Townsville Dojo 2.33

Sensei Matsumoto arrived in Australia in June 1966 as a pearling technician and marine biologist. He was employed by Pearls Pty Ltd of Perth and transferred to Thursday Island soon after.

Sensei then formed the Shoku-kai Karate club by request of Island community in 1966.He resigned from the company to open one of the first professional Karate Academies in Cairns in 1975. The Matsumoto Karate Academy formed and commenced training in Cairns on 12th January 1976 and celebrated it's 40th anniversary in 2015.

Townsville Branch has been operating at its current location since 1991.
Classes have been run by Shodan Instructors Ursula Simmonds and Jillian MacKenzie since 2006, and more recently joined by Shodan Instructors Dean Kyle and Neal Davison.

Matsumoto Karate Academy is a member club of the Queensland Karate Association Inc.

Sensei Matsumoto is the DNBK (Dai Nippon Butoku Kai) International Branch Official Co-ordinator of Australia, Certified 8th Dan.
Ursula & Jillian are Certified Sho Dan DNBK Members.
