Kimberley Homes 1.39

Kimberley Homes was first started in November 1985 by Gavan Dwyer then aged 21. Gavan had finished his four year apprenticeship working for one local builder and, after working for him for some time afterwards, thought it was time to expand on his lifetime goal and decided to begin his own building business. After building a number of homes in a new North Warrnambool estate, Gavan decided to name his new business "Kimberley Homes" as many of the homes he built were on Kimberley Road.

Gavan soon put on an apprentice and hired a labourer to assist him with the high volume of work that was being offered at the time. He built his own office and industrial shed on Rooneys road when he first started out as a business owner, staying at that address for about 5 years.

After buying and developing land into residential alotments, Gavan would build homes on them ready for sale. Some of these developments were Alistar Place, Alan Street, Juile Court and Hayley drive. After completing the developments at Hayley drive and Julie Court, Kimberley Homes went on to then develop and build Northpoint Shopping center, which held four businesses with houses attached upstairs.

He then proceeded to build the Northpoint Liquor drive through bottle shop, which his wife Julie now owns and runs and an office and shed space for himself behind this. Gavan then went on to plan and develop the Centro shopping center, selling the development to Lascorp who then sold the completed project to Centro.

27 years from when Gavan first decided to start his own business, He has hired about 12 apprentice carpenters, four trainee administration clerks, and countless labourers and contractors. He now employs two fully qualified carpenters, who both completed their apprenticeship through Kimberley Homes, a first year apprentice, and an administration clerk and has strong relationships with many contractors within the Warrnambool area.

Gavan is still buying and developing land through Kimberley Homes. The most recent example of this is a four townhouse development on the corner of Heazlewood and Grange roads in Warrnambool, which Kimberley Homes will be selling upon completion just after April. The four townhouses will be fully landscaped and have all the essentials other companys call "extras" making it simple for you to move in straight away!

Gavan is also in the planning stages of demolishing the current Kimberley Homes office and shed space, and building a Bar and Bistro to adjoin to the drive through bottle shop, After which he plans to develop and build 5 homes on a block off Queens road, at the old YMCA site.
