Details

Relay For Life is an overnight community event where teams of 10-15+ people participate in a relay-style walk, run or stroll to raise funds for Cancer Council. Team members simply have to keep their baton going around the oval non-stop from 3pm on the Saturday to 9am on the Sunday.
It's not a race...you can set your own pace! Your team's baton can be anything you like, and it's not unusual for entire teams to go fancy dress. The event brings the whole community together for a night of fun, entertainment, celebration and remembrance.

People of all ages come and go during the day to walk 30 minutes here, an hour there, while many stick around much longer to enjoy the entertainment, activities and community spirit. Many even show their commitment and dedication by camping overnight in the centre of the oval. Parents, there are also activities for the kids all throughout the event.

Local individuals and businesses in Hume are invited to create a team, join an existing team, or donate to a team...whatever you can do to help Hume's fight against cancer. Teams are encouraged to undertake their main fundraising before the relay, so we encourage interested team members to register as soon as possible to optimise their fund raising efforts. There are even awards for individuals and teams who raise the most funds. Teams who raise $5,000 or more can have the chance to dedicate their funds to a specific piece of research and be officially recognised as a sponsor of that research.

Everyone in the community can get involved in Relay For Life. Cancer Council recommends each Relay For Life team consist of 10-15 team members, including a nominated team captain. There are no age limitations or fitness requirements - with its carnival atmosphere, Relay For Life is suitable for everyone, and anyone can join in the fun!
