James Cook University (JCU) Halls of Residence - George Roberts Hall

This page is to keep you up to date on all that is happening at your hall and for you to share your photos and fun while you are living here.

Make sure to like the page for regular updates and be the first to know about important events, opportunities and free offers.

If you are considering joining us here, George Roberts Hall is situated on the western boundary of James Cook University’s Douglas Campus, adjacent to the University swimming pool, and close to the Schools of Humanities, Education and Tourism.

Being physically removed from central campus, George Roberts Hall offers a quieter environment for study, while still within easy walking distance of the main campus.

The George Roberts Hall complex consists of eight blocks of two or three stories.

Each block contains up to 15 units with three or four bedrooms, communal lounge, bathroom and kitchenette.

Two units on the ground floor are purpose-designed for disabled residents.

Each air-conditioned study-bedroom is furnished with:

* single bed
* desk and chair
* bookshelf
* wardrobe
* chest of drawers
* wall fan
* phone
* internet port

You will need to provide your own pillow, blanket, towels and sheets, and laundering your own linen and personal laundry is your responsibility. Coin operated washing machines and dryers are provided in two laundries situated at either end of the complex.

The lounge is air-conditioned and furnished with lounge chairs, coffee table, and ironing facilities. The kitchenette is equipped with a small refrigerator, microwave and jug for your convenience.

Residents can enjoy a game of volleyball or basketball in our courts, situated behind the dining hall. Adjacent to this is a common room which offers a wide-screen TV with surround sound and DVD player, a pool table, and vending machines on hand. The computer lab is right next door, available 24/7 to our residents.

Our Head of Hall lives within the complex and oversees the well-being of our 250 residents, assisted by a team of 12 Residential Assistants (RAs). Whether you need academic support, advice on social events or where to find the nearest shops – or anything else to do with living in Townsville or studying at James Cook University, just ask your RA for advice.

In addition to the Residential Support Team, our Administration Office is open between 9:00am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, and our Hall is serviced by the JCU Halls of Residence Catering and Housekeeping teams, as well as the University’s maintenance and grounds staff. Together, we aim to provide you with a safe, supportive and pleasant place in which to live and learn.

Our residents come from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds from within Australia and overseas. We hope that you will choose to become involved in the life of the Hall, to embrace the opportunity to meet each other at our various activities and to make the most of being part of a community of students with common goals.

This page is to connect all of our current residents. We encourage you to connect and send us messages of your time at George Roberts Hall.
