On Australia Day 1970 four local Canberra businessmen (a salesman, an accountant and two carpet layers) with the support of their wives, got together and decided to create a brand that specialised in quality floor coverings for the expanding Canberra and Queanbeyan population. With an underlying objective to offer the best range, the best quality, and the best prices of the time, these men made flooring one's home easier for young and old families when the doors of the Endeavour Carpets showroom opened on April 10th 1970. Not forgetting the lovely wives of these businessmen as they also played very important roles in the business.

Generating quite the buzz in the early days of trading, the first sale was recorded and dated April 17th 1970. This proud and momentous achievement now hangs framed, pride of place above the sales counter of the Endeavour Carpets Showroom in Fyshwick as a reminder of the brands origins.

The name “Endeavour Carpets” originates from our good mate, Captain Cook and the Ship Endeavour. As many of the first carpets to reach Australian shores came by boat from lands far and wide, what better ship to use as a namesake than that of the discoverer of this great land. There is plenty of nautically themed memorabilia hanging around the office of Endeavour Carpets also to carry the theme.

Present owners, Ben and Sherilyn (A.K.A Taylor) O'Brien, are proud to carry the flame for the earlier founders of the brand since 2007 when they were given the opportunity to take over the business. Ben has been with Endeavour Carpets since the early days when he commenced a carpet and vinyl laying apprenticeship in 1979 and was the manager for quite some time.

Ben and Sherilyn would like to thank the proud and previous owners Ron & Joan, Pat & Patricia, Terry & Dell and Kevin & Glennis for the opportunity to run and look after Endeavour Carpets.

Although some faces might have changed, we are still a family business and we pride ourselves on our quality of service, our friendly and expert advice, and our ability to take the stress out of selecting the right floor coverings for generations past and generations to come.
