Elermore Orchids 2.76

WELCOME

2014 was another successful year at DUNO & Elermore Orchids. The year started with D. Topaz Dream ‘Sweet’ taking out Champion Hybrid at the ANOS Bigibbum show and then a few months later our display at the Mingara Orchid Fair won first place, Oncidium. Moonshadow took out champion Oncidiinae and Bulbophyllum. Wilbur Chang ‘Elermore’ was awarded a HCC on its first flowering.

This year we had a fairly poor flowering season but as we moved into spring our plants won Champion Seedling, Champion Terrestrial and Champion Specimen at the Newcastle ANOS Spring Show and Champion Species, Champion Seedling and Champion Speciosum at the Central Coast Group’s Spring Show. We then experienced an exciting amount of seedling Sarcochilus flowering for the first time and we must say the future looks promising.

2015 started with a bang after a few days off at Christmas and with Callyn home it was straight back into lab work and the annual tasks of re-potting and de-Flasking. This year we welcome Lynette (Nan to Cal) to our team. Lyn will be handling all things administrative and we are sure you will love her as much as we do!

In February we were advised that our D. Touch of Gold ‘Laura’ HCC/AOC had been awarded the G Hermon Slade Award for 2014, an honor and an achievement we are very proud of. Along with this our specimen plant of Dendrochilum. Magnum ‘Darren’ was awarded an HCC and ACM.

In February we lost a dear friend, Brian Gerhard. Brian will be missed by all who knew him we personally think it is important for us as a community to continue his aspirations in the future of orchid hybridisation. We are doing this by offering a number of Brian’s most recent Hybrids in this listing. Our thoughts are with Phena and her family. We Thank Phena for continuing her support and trust in all our endeavors.

As always we continued into 2015 starting the show season with the Mingara orchid fair, again placing 1st with our table top display. It was a fantastic show, possibly the best so far! read a report on our blog.

This year we had one of the best flowering seasons we have ever had. In June our D. Topaz Dream 'Sweet' took out the top prize at the Boolaroo O.S winter show, Oncidium. Golden Sun x Star Struck 'Elermore' as reserve champ and Oncidium. ornithorhynchum 'Red Ned' as champion specimen. Not to brag but them we did it again at the Bellinger Valley O.S Spring Show with D. teretifolium 'Maddison Grace' HCC/AOC as the Grand Champ, Species champ and also specimen and D. Martin 'Gold' HCC/AOC as champ hybrid and Reserve Champion while D. Australian Lemon Pepper as Champion Dendrobium. In August at the ANOS Newcastle Group Spring Show D. speciosum 'Maddison' was Grand Champion and also awarded AM's by both ANOS and the AOC. This year the quality of the speciosum spectacular was out of this world and we were over the moon when D. Lauren 'Holly Chief' gained Reserve Champion Hybrid of the show and also was awarded HCC's by both ANOS and the AOC. Then to finish the year off our Dendrochilum. tenellum 'Joy' was awarded an ACM and our plants took our champion terrestrial, champion hybrid and champion Australiasian orchid at the Newcastle ANOS Sarcochilus show. Not too bad for a season we thought would be a shocker!
