Cofield Wines
The Cofield family has been treading the vineyards of Rutherglen for generations. The current owner’s Great Grandfather, Frank Cofield, started working at St Leonard’s vineyard in 1909. His grandson, Max Cofield spent his school holidays working there chipping weeds, before getting an 'inside job' working at Seppelts and later at All Saints winery.
Max had always had the desire & decided it was time to set up on his own. He obviously made the wine industry look enticing, because his son Damien has followed Max into the industry and has now taken over the winery, awaiting the next generation to mature.
Damien earned a Wine Science degree at Charles Sturt University in 1999. He then set off to Chablis, near Paris, to broaden his vinous horizons, after which he has dedicated his expertise to Cofield Wines.
Cofield Wines, famous for its sparkling wines, is now getting increased recognition for their reds and whites which are available across four ranges:
Provincial Parcel: A premium range focused on signature varieties from signature regions.
Minimal Footprint: A single vineyard range sourced from their Quartz Vein vineyard behind the winery - now farmed organically.
Cofield: A core range which covers their premium sparkling, white, red, and fortified wines.
Max's Footsteps: A contemporary wholesale range, all of which are available for purchase at the cellar door and online.
Damien has been sourcing fruit from his own vineyards in Rutherglen, as well as from grape growers in the King Valley, Alpine Valley, Beechworth, Glenrowan, Central Victoria, Pyrenees, Tumbarumba and Orange regions. Damien said, “We have a vision to make the best wine that we can, to deliver distinctive, varietally honest, quality wines and to share our passion for wine.”
“We are determined to mix business with pleasure, then bottle it,” he said.
As a way of offering their customers outstanding service, Cofield Wines has created a Cellar Circle Wine Club, in which a package of six wines is delivered automatically either two or four times annually. With eight different options of combinations of wines to choose from, there is sure to be an option suited to you. Either leave the choices to the professionals or pick your own combination - the Senior Winemaker will select six bottles for you personally, or a Cofield Wine representative can contact you to discuss the details of your selection. Members of the club not only receive wine, they also receive a quarterly newsletter with updates on new and limited releases, wine dinners, exclusive offers and events, and discounts and benefits from regional partners.
