In December 2005 NOVA Employment and Training Inc opened Cafe 64 to provide an opportunity for people with a disability to experience paid work in a great environment. One of the most important roles at Cafe 64 is the way it breaks down barriers. The Cafe employs Indigenous and Non Idigenous staff, young and more mature employees diabled and able bodied workers. In 2009 at the National Business Awards Cafe 64 was awarded first place for the best regional Buisness in NSW /ACT and were also awarded National Champion Business of the year.
Cafe 64 provides a means for local Aboriginal artists to display and sell their art and to retain all profits. The Indigenous art of Walgett differs greatly from other areas and does not include the dot technique found amongst Indigenous art elsewhere. The cafe's links with the Indigenous Elders and local people provide a vital service to help preserve local heritage.
