The BlueSox Club was established in late 2012 by Kel Lawless along with John Greig, who became club treasurer, a sponsorship was agreed on with one of the founders Brett Goodin, and uniforms were purchased from the USA. In its humble beginnings BlueSox fielded one men’s team in 2013, at the Logan City Softball Association. The following year 2014 the BlueSox club introduced 2 additional teams including an A Grade Men’s team (White Sox) & a ladies team (Lady Sox) along with the original BlueSox team. With all teams making the finals in 2014. Every year the BlueSox (Blue Team) originals field a Masters Team at the Queensland Masters. Thanks to Kel Lawless, a generous ongoing sponsorship was agreed to by the Pub Lane Tavern at Greenbank. It has been through this sponsorship that the BlueSox club have been able to purchase much needed playing equipment. We have also been able to dress and provide equipment free of charge for our junior players. 2015 saw the A Grade team (White Team) enter it’s first Premier Men’s tournament. Where they won the tournament in a hard fought come from behind victory to win against some of the best players in Australia and is undoubtedly the first of many more victories for this well balanced team. The BlueSox club although fairly new, boasts years of experience lead from the front by John Metekingi with well over 50 years playing and coaching experience. And was the winning coach for Queensland at the Under 19 Australian Nationals in Canberra with two of his sons. Next in line is David Metekingi who learnt how to play from his father John, David was a member of the Aussie Steelers Team who went on the be crowned World Champions at the 2009 ISF Wolrd Series and in 2010 was inducted into the Softball Australia Hall of Fame with this team. David also coaches the A Grade Team, Logan A Grade Men’s Team & has just been appointed the coach of the Under 17’s Representative Team as well as the Queensland Under 15’s Regional Head Coach. The club also boasts an array of talent including Tane Richardson who currently plays softball in Japan, New Zealand & Indonesia. Tane has represented New Zealand at both the junior & senior levels and is one of the first professional pitchers to travel from Japan & USA to play in both professional leagues in a single year. Tane has been playing in Japan for over 10 years. Looking forward the club has now shifted its focus to the juniors and in particular ages 4 – 10 & developing there skills. We are now providing an avenue for juniors to learn the game in a fun and safe environment surrounded by great coaches and parents. Our focus is on fun fun fun for everyone
