The Blue Mountains LAC is located in the North West Metropolitan Region of Sydney. The total policing area serviced by the LAC is 1600 sq kms. The Command is comprised of national parks, bushland and mainly separate residential dwellings. However, the expansion of retail, tourist, commercial and residential is continuining within this Command. This development will influence future crime rates and demands for policing. There are 23 suburbs within the LAC. The Great Western Highway is the only major arterial road servicing the Command (Lapstone through to Mount Victoria). The highway consists of mostly dual and single lanes. The highway directly accesses the M4 at the base of the Blue Mountains and connects with Penrith LAC. The Blue Mountains LGA is bordered by Hawkesbury LGA to the north, Penrith LGA to the east, Wollondilly LGA to the south, and Greater Lithgow LGA to the west. The Blue Mountains LGA also falls within the Macquarie and Lindsay Electorates.
