Acupuncture
What is it?
Acupuncture is a treatment that uses fine disposable needles,
inserted in specific points along channels called Meridians. The
needles are inserted between 1-3 cm depending on the point and
are left in the patient for about 20 – 30 mins.
How does it work?
Acupuncture works by tapping into the energy pathways that run
around the body (Meridians) to unblock the pathways, freeing up
the energy movement and thereby restoring balance to the body.
This moving energy in the body is know as Qi (pronounced ‘chee’)
and is the essential force to keep the body alive and healthy.
Blockages in the Meridians cause pain and imbalance in the body
and by unblocking the channel Acupuncture can relieve pain and
restore health to the body.

Does it hurt?
No. Most people don’t feel the needles going in as they are too fine
to stimulate the sensory nerve endings on the surface of the body.
Most people will feel a slight tingling or dull sensation around the
point which means that the Qi is moving.

What will it do for me?
Acupuncture can improve your energy levels, relieve pain,
rebalance hormones, relieve stress and improve wellbeing.
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of conditions including:
fatigue, stress, depression, digestive problems, colds & flus and
allergies, joint pain, headaches, back pain, period pain, PMT and
much more.

What is ‘Cupping’?
Cupping is a technique used with an Acupuncture treatment. It
uses glass cups under which we create a suction and this helps to
stretch the muscles, increase blood circulation and relieve pain.
This technique can leave round marks on the skin, this is quite
normal and part of the treatment.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
What is it?
Chinese Herbal Medicine has been around for thousands of years.
It uses a huge range of herbs to treat many conditions in the body,
there are more than 500 herbs commonly used. Chinese Herbal
Medicine uses a unique form of diagnosis to establish what’s wrong
with a person and then uses this diagnosis to create a specific
formula for that person. Each formula uses between 10 and 15
herbs.

How does it work?
Herbal Medicine works by helping the body to heal itself. By
strengthening and nourishing the body, the herbs help to restore
the balance to the body. The herbs can help to improve the immune
system, restore balance to the hormones and strengthen the whole
body.

Do the herbs taste horrible?
Traditionally the Chinese Herbs are given raw and boiled to make a
tea or decoction. This tea can be difficult to take. In modern times
we have been able to develop powdered concentrates of the herbs.
Clients will now be given a jar of powdered herbs that they mix with
a small amount of water and these are usually quite easy to take.

What will it do for me?
Herbal medicine can increase your energy levels and help
strengthen the body. By helping the body heal itself, the herbs can
restore health to the body and prevent further illness.

What will it treat?
Herbal medicine can be used to treat a wide variety of illnesses
including fatigue, migraines, digestive disorders, menopausal
syndrome, sinusitis, hayfever, eczema, menstrual problems,
infertility, stress, anxiety, insomnia and much more.
