periscope als Initiative geht auf das Bedürfnis zurück, eine tragfähige Plattform für junge Kunstschaffende zu bilden, Ausstellungsmöglichkeiten zu bieten, Kooperationen mit KünstlerInnen, Gleichgesinnten und Interessierten einzugehen, und junger zeitgenössischer Kunst eine Stimme und einen Raum zu geben.
Dadurch soll eine Atmosphäre mitgeprägt werden, in der Offenheit, Interesse und Diskursfreude gegenüber zeitgenössischer junger Kunst herrschen darf.

Als Periskop bezeichnet man bekanntlich das Sehrohr von U-Booten, welches einen Rundblick in der Welt darüber ermöglicht. periscope symbolisiert daher: die Fühler auszustrecken, der Umwelt aufgeschlossen zu begegnen und Kontakte zu knüpfen.

Neben dem periscope:project:space, der den KünstlerInnen zur Realisierung ihrer Projekte zur Verfügung steht, unterstützen wir mit unserem persönlichen Engagement und unserer Stimme diese Projekte.

periscope is an off-space for young (visual) artists, which exists and operates since 2006 in the City of Salzburg (Austria). Since then periscope continuously helps realising, presenting and promoting projects of young contemporary artists.

∎ with periscope we intend to generate a sustainable platform for young artists and to offer a place, where projects can be developed, discussed and presented. We want to communicate and cooperate with different people, organisations and social networks in order to create an open community with shared feelings and interests for art.
The idea behind is to gain support for young art and its artists as well as to give them a space where they can develop their ideas even further.

∎ A periscope - used by submarines - is an instrument for observation from a hidden position. For us, the name seemed to be perfect for our space: in under water submarines periscopes reveal the panorama view of a surface. periscope means getting a glimpse of a different sphere, it means deliberately seeking contact, and it means to willingly connect.

Apart from periscope:project:space, which is the infrastructure we can provide, periscope also offers personal support by each of its members and friends for projects to be realised.

∎ periscope exists as a non-profit organisation, with the legal structure of a registered association. The initiative is carried by dedicated friends and interested Zeitgenossen on a voluntary basis.
