Baker & Spice Dubai became aware of the local farming community in 2009 and we began using this fantastic produce in our kitchens.

When discussing our discoveries with our customers we were greeted with astonishment and disbelief. When we said some of the farms are organic, people said they wanted access to the same produce.
Out of this The Farmers’ Market On The Terrace idea was born.
When we announced to the press what we were planning, the media storm was unbelievable.
The discussion about locally grown food has not stopped since. We are proud to have contributed to the change in people’s perceptions, and have watched with delight other initiatives follow in our footsteps.

The Farmers’ Market On The Terrace is active for around 6 months of the year, during the winter season which is the growing season in the UAE.
Rather than preaching about the ethical values and food miles, we want to tell you about the fabulousness of the food.
The vegetables and herbs are picked in the morning and are in front of you on the various market stands by 8am every Friday. The farmers are there to sell directly to you at the cheapest prices imaginable. The produce is so fresh it will last in your kitchen for a whole week. You don’t need to shop anywhere else!
The tradition of farmers bringing their bounty to town has been successfully revived in urban farmers’ markets all over the world, for good reason.
We are all fed up with the disconnect between us, the consumers, and the people who grow our food.
We are fed up with not knowing where our food really comes from and how long it spent in transit.
We are fed up with not being able to tell how fresh it really is.
We are fed up with produce we spent good money on, wilting to nothing in our kitchens in the blink of an eye.
We are fed up with paying for food which has to buy an airline ticket to get to our table.
We most certainly are fed up with industrial agriculture masquerading as real food.
So here is the alternative.
