New Indian Model School, Sharjah ( popularly known as NIMS-Sharjah ) was inaugurated by Kerala State Education Minister Shri. Chandra Sekhar in 1982 (in a villa at Maisaloon) and had a meagre strength of about 30 students. With the increase in strength, it expanded to four villas in Maisaloon, and continued in the same premises until 1996. In September of the same year the school was shifted to spacious building at Qassimia, Sharjah. In 2001, the boys' section of the school was shifted to its newly constructed building in Al Azra ( Sharjah ) and in 2003 the girls' section was also shifted to Al Azra ; which presently has two separate buildings and facilities for boys and girls and with nearly 3000 students on rolls.
Since 1993 when NIMS Sharjah sent its first batch to the SSLC Examinations it created records in the results. In 1996 Sameer Abdul Azeez (State 8th Rank) and Jamshed Jasar (State 14th Rank) paved the way for the records. Sameer Abdul Azeez went on to secure the second rank in the Pre-Degree Examinations of the Kerala University in 1998. Other State level SSLC rank holders include Shahul Hameed (2002 - 8th rank); Chippi Mariam Varghese (2003 - 13th rank); Rishin Suman (2003 - 15th rank) and Afshan Ashraf (2004 - 14th Rank).In the Higher Secondary Exams also NIMS students excelled with State level ranks. In the 2000 Commerce batch Rafeeda A Raheem and Najla Razak claimed the 1st and 2nd State ranks respectively. In 2002 both the Science and Commerce toppers in the Gulf are Bibi Kadija and Ameera P. Ummer and again in 2004 Balqees Mohammed Haneef stood 1st in the Gulf in Science stream. The school still maintains its academic records with may a students achieving high grades at the CBSE and Kerala Board Examinations.

Over these years the visit of personalities like great sportsman Muhammed Ali (Boxer), Central Cabinet Minster Mr. Gulam Nabi Azad, Speaker Mr. M.O.H. Farook; Kerala Minsters Shri, E.T. Mohammed Basheer; Shri. Nalakath Soopy; Shri. M.K. Muneer; Shri. Abdur Rahman and eminent writer Shri Kuldeep Nayyar; Poetess Sugatha Kumari and diplomats from the Indian embassy and consulate inspired our student community.
