Located adjacent to the royal enclave of Nad Al Sheba, Al Barari is the flagship development of the family-run Zaal Group of Companies. With Phase I completed and most of the villas handed over to their owners, Al Barari has succeeded in its vision to create one of the most desirable, environmentally-conscious developments in the UAE.

Literally meaning “wilderness”, Al Barari was designed to be a true desert oasis. Eighty percent of the development’s 14.2 million square feet is made up of green, lush space that envelopes the 189 palatial-villas. Beautiful themed gardens, with over 16.4 kilometers of naturally landscaped lakes, freshwater streams, cascades and waterways make Al Barari the lowest density development in the UAE and more akin to a botanical garden than a residential community.

The landscape’s high density planting keeps the ground cooler, reduces evaporation enabling the use of less water; irrigation is controlled by a sophisticated irrigation controller linked to a local, on-site weather station. In fact, the level of plant density has resulted in the creation of Al Barari’s own micro-climate.

Phase I has seen the handover of the majority of the 217 villas (The Residences and The Reserve) to residents, and completion of six themed gardens and the region’s largest privately-owned plant nursery Greenworks, which covers 38 hectares (4 million square feet) and currently produces over 800 plant varieties. Phase I also saw the launch of the unique concept restaurant, The Farm, and health and fitness club Body Language. Launching this year is the Heart and Soul Spa.

Phase II aims to introduce Al Barari to a wider audience, and will see the creation of a 6-star boutique hotel, retail offerings and further residential development in addition to Ashjar and Seventh Heaven.

Al Barari’s ethos, to give residents boundless living – a continuous space between outside and inside, a place for contemplation and relaxation – is the product of the Zaal family’s passion to create something never before seen in the region. With Phase II planned to be completed in the next five years, developments such as Al Barari are ushering in a new way of living in Dubai, a city not readily known for its environmental credentials.
