Abu Dhabi Satellite Reef 2.3

NYUAD presents the Abu Dhabi Satellite Reef part of the worldwide Crochet Coral Reef Project created by the Institute For Figuring.

The Crochet Coral Reef project was started in 2005 by Margaret and Christine Wertheim of the Institute For Figuring in Los Angeles. It is a project that resides at the intersection of mathematics, marine biology, handicraft and community art practice, and also responds to the environmental crisis of global warming and the escalating problem of oceanic plastic trash. Hosted by NYU from 2013-2014, the Abu Dhabi Satellite Reef is the newest member of the worldwide network of local reefs.

It’s now Abu Dhabi’s turn to help it grow!

All crocheted coral pieces contributed will be included in the upcoming Exhibition at NYU Abu Dhabi’s new Campus on Saadiyat Island in Autumn 2014 and will be returned to each maker after the close of the exhibition.
